“China Campus Literature” at 30: The Twin Stars of Literature and Education

Celebrating three decades of literary excellence, China Campus Literature stands as a unique publication under the China Writers Association, dedicated exclusively to reading and writing within educational environments nationwide. On December 10th, a symposium marking its 30th anniversary was held at the China Modern Literature Museum, bringing together educators, writers, and literary enthusiasts to honor its enduring legacy.

A Bridge Between Two Worlds

Zhang Kangkang, Vice Chairperson of the China Writers Association and a renowned author, eloquently described the publication as a “twin constellation”—seamlessly merging the realms of literature and education. She emphasized how the journal successfully intertwines campus life with literary ideals, nurturing both creativity and compassion among young readers. Zhang proposed that China Campus Literature could further embrace its dual role by addressing sensitive issues faced by adolescents, thereby strengthening its commitment to both pedagogical and literary responsibilities.

Evolution and Impact

In recent years, the journal has evolved to reflect contemporary trends and voices, assembling a distinguished advisory and editorial team. Its comprehensive redesign focuses on delivering “heartfelt and soulful” content, setting a new benchmark for campus literature. Wu Yiqin, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the China Writers Association, highlighted the publication’s expanded vision: while continuing to guide primary and secondary school students in reading and writing, it now also embraces contributions from university students and educators, transforming into a spiritual home for learners and teachers of all ages.

Inclusivity and Vision

Zhang Yali, Editor-in-Chief of Writer’s Publishing House and former chief editor of China Campus Literature, noted the journal’s broad author base, which includes domestic and international children’s literature writers, as well as students and teachers from various educational levels. Guided by principles of literary quality, originality, campus relevance, and engagement, the publication has partnered with key secondary schools across the country, fostering a new era of campus literary culture.

Beyond Literature: A Cultural Pillar

Participants at the symposium unanimously affirmed that China Campus Literature has transcended its role as mere reading material. It now serves as an essential tool for cognitive and self-education among students, enriching campus culture and complementing language education in profound ways. Its significance, they noted, extends far beyond the literary sphere, embedding itself as a vital component of holistic education in China.
